The renowned journalism professor Ulrich Pätzold enrolled as a student of biology at our university – and shared his experiences with a remarkable article about our lab. Unfortunately, it is only available in German and behind the newspaper ‘Tagesspiegel’s paywall.
This article was meant to be the beginning of a more systematic analysis and reporting on the roles of genes and noise in brain development, but it ended up Prof. Pätzold’s last published work. Ulrich Pätzold unexpectedly passed on June 4, 2026. We are heartbroken, but grateful to have been part of his journey to communicate science, knowledge and joy.
