The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation has awarded the prestigious Humboldt Research Award to our close long-term collaborator and RobustCircuit co-PI Bassem Hassan to be hosted at the Hiesinger Lab in Berlin.
Professor Bassem Hassan (Brain Institute, Paris) is an internationally leading neuroscientist well known for his work on brain development. He has made major contributions to understand the roles and limitations of genes for nervous system development and behavior. Professor Hassan’s work has demonstrated that stochastic processes are essential to neuronal wiring and ensure behavioral individuality. In Germany, he will focus on the role of the genetic encoding of time for the stereotypy and variability of brains. Bassem Hassan is hosted by Professor Robin Hiesinger at the Free University of Berlin.

The aim is to recruit internationally sought-after talent and top researchers as partners for Germany as a destination for research. Award winners are invited to conduct a research project of their choice at a research institution in Germany in cooperation with specialist colleagues there.
